The Old Testament Scriptures

Prophecy of a Suffering Savior In Isaiah

Isaiah 52:13-15 "See, my Servant will prosper; He will be highly exalted. But many were amazed when they saw Him. His face was so disfigured He seemed hardly human, and from His appearance, one would scarcely know He was a man. And He will startle many Nations. Kings will stand speechless in His presence. For they will see what they had not been told; they will understand what they had not heard about."

Isaiah 53:1-12 "Who has believed our message? To whom has the Lord revealed His powerful arm? My Servant grew up in the Lord’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about His appearance, nothing to attract us to Him. He was despised and rejected— a Man of many sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on Him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses He carried; it was our sorrows that weighed Him down. And we thought His troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for His own sins! But He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on Him the sins of us all. He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet He never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearer's, He did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, He was led away. No one cared that He died without descendants, that His life was cut short in midstream. But He was struck down for the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But He was buried like a criminal; He was put in a rich man’s grave. But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush Him and cause Him grief. Yet when His life is made an offering for sin, He will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in His hands. When He sees all that is accomplished by His anguish, He will be satisfied. And because of His experience, my Righteous Servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for He will bear all their sins. I will give Him the honors of a victorious soldier, because He exposed Himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels."

What Does It Mean For Jesus To Die On The Cross For Our Sins? - The Gospel of Jesus Christ - SO4J.com

Jesus Became Our Perfect Sacrifice For Our Sins

Just like in the Old Testament Scriptures above (Isaiah 52 & 53), Jesus was: Ripped & Shredded to Pieces, and was so Brutally Murdered, Tortured, Whipped, Tormented, Slapped, Mocked, Laughed at, both Hands and Feet were nailed to pieces of wood where he would endure hours of having to Hang on a Cross outside almost naked. He was Falsely Accused, and thought of by the Religious Leaders as being Crazy. Jesus was Innocent of all charges— that the Religious Leaders had against Him. He never once sinned. Jesus was Crucified on Passover; becoming our Perfect Sacrificial Lamb for ALL the World through His Brutal Murder and Death on the Cross!

The Religious Leaders thought Jesus had a demon or that he was Crazy!

John 10:20 “Some of them said, "He has a demon, or he's crazy. Why listen to a man like that?"

Betrayed by a close friend & Disciple for 30 pieces of Silver

Matt 26:14-15 “Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests and asked, "How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?" And they gave him thirty pieces of silver."

He was innocent, yet He was treated like a dangerous criminal

Matt 26:55 “Then Jesus said to the crowd, "Am I some dangerous criminal, that you have come armed with swords and clubs to arrest me?”

His Disciples Deserted Him

Matt 26:56 “The disciples deserted him and fled.”

Religious Leaders wanted to Find People to Lie about Jesus

Matt 26:59 “leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find witnesses who would lie about Jesus, so they could put him to death."

They Arrested Him and Tied Him up

John 18:12  “The soldiers, their commanding officer, and the Temple guards arrested Jesus and tied him up.”

They Blindfolded Jesus, and Hit Him in the Face with their Fists

Mark 14:65 ”...and they blindfolded him and hit his face with their fists."

They Spit on Jesus’ Face, Hit Him with Fists, Slapped Him, and Mocked Him!

Matt 26:67-68 “Then they spit in Jesus' face and hit him with their fists. And some slapped him saying, "Prophesy to us, you Messiah! Who hit you that time?"

Religious People Shouted Their Accusations Against Jesus!

Luke 23:10 “leading priests and the teachers of religious law stood there shouting their accusations.”

They threw many different Insults at Jesus

Luke 22:65 “they threw all sorts of terrible insults at Him.”

Herod and his soldiers mocked and ridiculed Jesus! Herod was the same man who beheaded John the Baptist too!

Luke 23:11 “Now Herod and his soldiers began mocking and ridiculing Jesus. Then they put a royal robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.”

One of Jesus’ Disciples, Peter, denies he knows Jesus 3 Times.

Matt 26:74-75 “Peter said, "I swear by God, I don't know the man." And immediately the rooster crowed. Suddenly, Jesus' words flashed through Peter's mind: "Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times." And he went away, crying bitterly.”

They Bound Jesus and led him away

Matt 27:2 “Then they bound him and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor.”

Jesus was flogged with a Lead-tipped Whip, and then crucified between 2 Thieves

Matt 27:26  “So Pilate released Arabians (a Murderer) to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to crucify him."

More Mockery from the Leading Priests and Teachers of Religious Law!

Matt 27:41 “The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the other leaders also mocked Jesus. "He saved others," they scoffed, "but he can't save himself! So he is the king of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross, and we will believe in him!  He trusted God—let God show his approval by delivering him! For he said, 'I am the Son of God."

Jesus Was God - After He Died, The Earth Shook & Bodies of Many Godly People Who Had Died Were Raised From The Dead!

Matt 27:50-54 “Then Jesus shouted out again, and he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead after Jesus' resurrection. They left the cemetery, went into the holy city of Jerusalem, and appeared to many people. The Roman officer and the other soldiers at the crucifixion were terrified by the earthquake and all that had happened. They said, "Truly, this was the Son of God!"

Jesus Was Buried in A Rich Man's Tomb As Prophesied in Isaiah 53:9

Matt 27:57-60 “As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who was one of Jesus' followers, went to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him. Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a long linen cloth. He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock.”
